So What is Cross Country Anyway?

Cross Country is a recognized sport just like basketball or volleyball. The IESA has conducted a state championship series for boys since 1979, and girls since 1980. In Middle School the course is 2 miles (3200 meters). A team consists of 7 runners. A team wins if they have the lowest score. The winning runner in a race scores 1 point for his team and the second 2 points and so on. The points of the best 5 finishers on a team are added up for the team score. A perfect score for a cross country team is 15 (1+2+3+4+5=15). For more information check out this link to Wikipedia.
